Employee Spotlight: Kayla Yoder
Kayla Yoder is a Project Designer at Office Interiors. From executing design projects to ensuring client satisfaction, Kayla is a versatile and skilled member of our team! We recently sat down with Kayla to talk about her experience at Office Interiors.
How long have you been at Office Interiors?
I have been with Office Interiors for almost 11 years. With this being my first job right out of college, I was looking for something in the commercial design realm that was close to home, so Office Interiors was the perfect fit!
What does a Project Designer’s job look like?
I am responsible for overseeing and executing the design of the project from start to finish to ensure client satisfaction. This includes meeting with the client during the intake meeting to establish what they want, need, and their end goals. We also look at space planning and 3D renderings, specifications, and finish selections.
What inspired you to pursue a career in Interior Design?
I have always had a passion for interior design and interior architecture. When I was just a kid, I would find myself playing on the computer—designing dream homes and would grow bored with the SIMS game after the housing design phase was over. In high school, I finally found my niche during an AutoCAD class where the assignment was to digitally design a home and then build a 3D model from our computer-generated design. My passion for commercial interior design was then confirmed through my education at Ball State and several internships I did in college.
What is your favorite aspect of working at Office Interiors?
My favorite part of working at Office Interiors is teamwork. The design team is so supportive of one another, and we all can collaborate, help, and contribute ideas for the team's success. The comradery and respect we have for each other both personally and professionally is unparalleled and I enjoy working with other people who share the same passion I do.
How do you approach planning a new project?
My approach to design is to keep it simple, but not boring. I enjoy the challenge of finding solutions for clients that exceed their expectations, but fall within their budget, all while being functional and beautiful.
Your favorite or most memorable project?
I’ve worked on 2 of the biggest projects at Office Interiors, both being new hospitals within the Franciscan Health network. These projects were feats in themselves from start to finish just based on the sheer size of them. Each had their own unique challenges, but managing them and making sure the client was happy was my top priority. Solving problems on the fly during installation challenged me to think outside the box, but I always enjoy the challenge! By being able to solve things on site, both projects had minimal design punches and contributed to the overall success of the project.
Outside of work, what are some hobbies or interests that you enjoy pursuing?
My kids keep me very busy! My daughter recently started competitive gymnastics within the last year, and I am enjoying watching her grow doing something she is passionate about.
Are there any interesting facts that you’d like to share about yourself?
I am a documentary junkie and love all things true crime!
