What drew you to start working with Vista Technologies?
I was drawn to Vista Technologies because they are a local company that strives for customer excellence and quality AV solutions. After moving to South Bend from New York City, I was looking for a career in a related field to leverage my background in telecommunications which included cell phone tower repair and commercial internet services. When I discovered an opening at Vista Technologies, I took the time to learn about the company and the AV industry, and it became clear that this was the perfect place to apply my skills in a new, dynamic environment.
But what excites me the most about my role here is the opportunity to constantly engage with new and emerging technologies within our industry, ensuring that each day is filled with exciting, educational experiences.
Can you briefly describe your role and responsibilities as an AV Design Engineer?
I am responsible for designing audiovisual systems which typically includes creating a bill of materials, creating any necessary drawings such as floor plans or diagrams, and estimating the labor required for the system. In short, I create AV systems that fit our clients’ wants, needs, and budgets!
How do you approach planning and implementing new projects?
When planning and implementing new projects, I start by reading through the scope of work and determining all the client’s wants and needs. From there, I create a bill of materials that fits the client’s budget as well as the identified needs. Lastly, I will create any supporting documentation for our field team to install the system and support them throughout the installation process by answering any questions that arise.
Can you share a memorable project or accomplishment you have achieved in your role?
The most memorable project I’ve worked on would have to be the University of Notre Dame’s Eck Center Auditorium. It’s a beautiful space where we installed an amazing sound system and video wall for the staff to hold meetings and to show a welcome video for visitors. There was a lot of collaboration with other vendors to make this project come to life, and in the end, it turned out wonderfully!
Outside of work, what are some hobbies or interests that you enjoy pursuing?
Outside of work I enjoy reading, spending time with my sons, and playing Magic: The Gathering with friends and family.
Are there any interesting facts that you’d like to share about yourself?
One of my first jobs was climbing cell phone towers to do repairs and upgrades and the highest tower I’ve ever climbed was in Fort Myers, Florida and was 500 feet tall!
